Check your adviser is regulated

Immigration advice is regulated. According to GOV.UK, advisers must be registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (formerly the OISC) or belong to an approved professional body. Every firm on this page is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; you can check any firm on the SRA register.

Be wary of anyone who guarantees a result, asks you to sign documents you don’t understand, or won’t tell you who regulates them.

What it costs

SRA-regulated firms must publish price information for preparing immigration applications and for appeals against Home Office decisions, except asylum, under the SRA Transparency Rules. Home Office application fees and the Immigration Health Surcharge are separate; check them on GOV.UK.

Choosing an immigration solicitor in Coventry

  • Ask about experience with your route: family, work, asylum or appeals.
  • Ask whether the firm can advise in your language, or will arrange an interpreter.
  • Get the fee and what it covers in writing, including what happens if more evidence is needed.

Common questions

Who is allowed to give immigration advice?

How much does an immigration solicitor cost?
SRA-regulated firms must publish price information for immigration applications and for appeals against Home Office decisions, except asylum. Check each firm’s website for its prices.
